Events: Community Capacity building among the Bukusu Community Bungoma County Kenya

Community capacity building plays an important role in preserving culture, promoting participation, and empowering local communities. In Bungoma County, Kenya, a community engagement and research initiative led by Dr. Precious Wapukha brought together members of the Bukusu community to discuss cultural preservation and the importance of documenting oral histories.

The event focused on educating and empowering participants on how communities can preserve their traditions, values, and indigenous knowledge for future generations. Through workshops, discussions, and collaborative learning, participants explored the significance of oral storytelling as a tool for cultural identity and historical continuity.

The initiative also emphasized community participation in development processes. Members of the community were encouraged to actively contribute ideas, share experiences, and engage in collective efforts aimed at strengthening social and cultural structures within the region.

The research highlighted how capacity-building programs can create awareness, improve local participation, and inspire communities to take ownership of their heritage and development goals. By combining academic research with grassroots engagement, Dr. Precious Wapukha’s work demonstrated the value of inclusive community-based approaches in promoting sustainable cultural preservation.

This initiative stands as an important example of how research, education, and community collaboration can work together to strengthen local identities while encouraging unity, empowerment, and long-term social development within the Bukusu community of Bungoma County.
